Troubles with the National Australia Bank AGAIN!

Yesterday I had programmed for a payment to pay off my Business Visa Account from my Business Account.

I went to check my account today and found the payment had not gone through and I had received a notification of non-payment

This is despite my account being in credit, albeit I paid in a cheque yesterday for most of that balance which were "uncleared funds"

I rang up the number quoted on the non-payment advice to find out why this particular payment had been rejected as on previous occasions when I have had "uncleared funds" - debits have been paid on my account. Further,I had
sufficient funds in my personal account - to cover the cheque paid in should it have been dishonoured. Surely this offset would have been taken into account?

Now, I wouldn't have minded so much if the payment had been refused - it is just that it is an inconsistent practice - in that as I have stated, past debits have been allowed against "uncleared funds"

After going through two different departments on the 'phone all I could find out was that I was being penalised because two debits drawn by third parties had hit my account and caused it to overdraw for small amounts - which I corrected the next day.
(I have people drawing for commission payments - I never know for how much or when they are actually going to hit).

The bank of course can't enlighten me as to when their rules applying to my account were changed - and why nobody has had the courtesy to inform me prior to something like this happening?

Today I have transferred $229.53 from my personal account to my business account so that I could then transfer the same amount from my business account to my visa card.

Remember the days when the bank manager would ring you up and you would have a polite natter whilst he would tell you that he had a cheque of yours in front of him that would overdraw the account? You would explain the situation and he'd let the cheque go through because he knew you and knew you'd fix things up. Not now - everything is centralised at some unmarked building probably on the outskirts of Alice Springs. Nobody knows you - you have to answer a whole string of questions to identify yourself every time you ring up - and of course - the bank is correct in everything they do and how dare you question them!

* As a follow up - I had a call from my Bank Manager who finally explained to me that when paying a credit card by transfer from your bank accounts - the funds have to be cleared funds. It is the only exception - so remember this in your future dealings so that a similar rejection doesn't happen to you.
