This morning at 10.30 we set off again to Worcester and the Stadium Theatre for a concert given by ATOS President, Ken Double at the 4/35 Wurlitzer.Beforehand we had a bread roll type lunch in the upstairs lobby which had been furnished with tables and chairs for the occasion.
Ken’s concert also featured Jim Stine on trumpet and Cathy Cheml, vocalist. Both these artists had been with the Harry James band.. Ken showed just how good an accompanist he is and also pointed out another feature of theatre organs which had been converted to computerized running in that you are now able to press a button to automatically transpose anything you are playing into any key you desire.
In the afternoon we were given a bus tour of Boston stropping off at the North Church for a lecture on its historical significance and then to the mooring of the sailing ship “Independence” which after 200 or so more years has not been de-commissioned from the US Navy. I declined a tour of the vessel at it would have meant a security check akin to that which goes on at airports.
In the evening we boarded a luxurious yacht for a tour of Boston Harbour and another5 buffet style feast. At first the DJ who was in charge of the recorded music selection was playing all that loud boom boom type noise posing as music which young people seem to like to listen to, Of course as most of the audience was close to a permanent visit to a cemetery I decided to ask the most accommodating young man whether he might have any quieter, perhaps older selections amongst his repertoire. He managed to oblige and about 500 oldies sighed a huge sigh of relief. We were though treated later to a floor show whereby some of the staff sang to us by courtesy of a loudly amplified microphone with a backing gramophone record. The acts also consisted of a chorus line of about 4 other girls doing routines associated with disco type dancing.
After the cruise we returned to the hotel arriving back there at 10.30pm or so.
